Matthew R. Wilson is a proud member of the professional labor unions for stage and screen: SAG-AFTRA and Actors’ Equity.  He has appeared in film and on television and has performed in theatres around the world.  He holds an MFA in Classical Acting.

This past holiday season, Matt made his third appearance at Folger Theatre, this time as Gib (the 2nd shepherd) in The Second Shepherds’ Play. This summer, he returns to Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre as Wilbur in Hairspray.

Matt made his television debut in CBS’s As the World Turns and appears in Season Two of the Netflix original TV series House of Cards as a US Senator opposite Kevin Spacey. He has performed in several independent films and a variety of video projects for clients such as the NASA, US Postal Service, and Federal Aviation Association.

A ten-year resident of New York City, Matt performed in several of the city’s notable venues.  Some of his Washington, DC credits include the Kennedy Center, Folger Theatre, Constellation Theatre, dog & pony dc (Helen Hayes Award Nomination for Outstanding New Play), and Faction of Fools Theatre Company (Helen Hayes Award Winner for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company).  He has also performed regionally for the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, New England Shakespeare Festival, Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and Clarence Brown Theatre, among others.

Throughout his life on stage, he has been honored to play some of Shakespeare’s most iconic roles including Hamlet, Malvolio, Romeo, Benedick, Oberon, Sir Andrew Aguecheeck, Autolycus, and Touchstone.

Since 2004, Matt has toured the world with his The Great One-Man Commedia Epic, including runs in NYC and London and special appearances at the Kennedy Center and the famed Celebration Barn.
